The cooperative movement represents a people-centric alternative to today's exploitative and profit-driven development model that exploits both human and natural resources. When these cooperatives operate under the full participation and control of workers themselves, the aforementioned evils are eliminated. Labour societies do not work for profit but to provide employment to their workers. The conviction that 'I am working for the nation, not for the capitalist' must be instilled. Labour cooperative societies serve as models capable of ensuring dignity, better wages, welfare benefits, and job security for work, while also imparting this conviction. The Kerala State Labour Cooperative Federation (Labourfed) primarily aims to strengthen primary societies to restore employment for workers in societies that have faced crises and lost jobs post-COVID, and to create more employment opportunities.
